Zimbabwe participation unclear

Bangladesh tri-series still in doubt

Cricinfo staff

February 16, 2006

Confusion continues to surround the proposed one-day tri-series in Bangladesh next month with more reports that Zimbabwe, who are scheduled to take part along with Kenya, are on the verge of pulling out.

The whole tournament has been shrouded in confusion since it was first mooted, with Zimbabwe's participation at the heart of the chaos. The original plan was for the three sides to play each other twice with the top two meeting in a one-off final. It is now being suggested that Bangladesh will play three ODIs against Kenya instead.

Sources close to the Bangladesh board (BCB) have suggested that Zimbabwe have been unwilling to commit to anything, and although Zimbabwe Cricket last week told Cricinfo that it would be sending a side, that fact does not appear to have been conveyed to the BCB. It is not the first time that there has been such a breakdown in communication.

Only yesterday, ZC announced that the one-day series it is hosting against Kenya had been cut from five matches to three, but it emerged that it had neglected to inform the Kenyans first.
