Horsham has hosted county cricket regularly since 1908, aside from a period in the 1960s and 70s when few matches were played. The ground itself has been in use since 1851 (Horsham CC is even older, formed in 1771) and houses only one permanent structure - the pavilion, which was built in 1921. A small and fast outfield make this a good place for batsmen, but the pitch does tend to help bowlers in the latter stages. The match in 2005 was cancelled after Sussex ruled that the square was not up to standard.
