Tim Boon, Leicestershire's senior coach, is not in the race to be coach of the Indian team, Paul Maylard-Mason, Leicestershire's chief executive officer, has said.

"I'd just like to kill that one," Maylard-Mason told the Hindu. "Tim, I understand, has been asked a few questions which he answered. You know how these things happen. Tim certainly hasn't applied. There has been no official contact and I know Tim hasn't spoken to them [BCCI]."

Boon had earlier told Cricinfo that he would be interested in coaching an international team. "I'm in the middle of a contract here in Leicestershire but any county coach will aspire to be an international coach. I look at England, Australia and India as the top three jobs in the world. We all harbour thoughts to lead countries."

Boon has previously been part of England's support staff.

The Indian board has refused to confirm whether Boon had applied for the position. However, Sharad Pawar, the board president, indicated that it had sought the help of counterparts in the English and Australian boards in the hunt for a new coach. "If they have someone who matches what we need, they will recommend some names to us."
