Ireland v Bangladesh A, 1st ODI, Bangor

McCallan leads Ireland to easy win

Cricinfo staff

June 30, 2008

Ireland 112 for 5 (Strydon 40, Arafat Sunny 2-22) beat Bangladesh 110 for 9 (McCallan 3-10) by five wickets
Scorecard

Kyle McCallan, Ireland's captain, picked up three wickets as they comfortably beat Bangladesh A for the second time in three days in Bangor. Set to chase a paltry 110, Ireland raced to the target in only 28 overs, with useful contributions from Reinhardt Strydom and Andre Botha.

With rain restricting the match to 44 overs a side, Bangladesh started cautiously, adding only 41 in the first 12 overs. Captain Junaid Siddique was the first one to go after he edged Thinus Fourie for 23. The next three wickets fell for 25 runs after which McCallan - who had removed Imrul Kayes for 21 - returned to have Nadif Chowdhury caught for a duck and Dhiman Ghosh bowled for seven. The last five batsmen added only 43 to the total. Siddique was Bangladesh's top scorer with 23. Each of Ireland's six bowlers picked up at least one wicket, but offspinner McCallan was the pick of the bowlers, with his nine overs going for only 10 runs.

For Ireland, Strydom and Andrew White added 47 together before they got out in consecutive overs. But by then Ireland needed only 54 to win and Botha's unbeaten 30 got them home with plenty of overs to spare.

Meanwhile Cricket Ireland reported in its website that medium-pacer Alex Cusack will miss the two ODIs against Scotland and New Zealand this month after breaking his finger while fielding in this game. Ryan Haire, yet to make his debut, has been named his replacement.
