Ravi Shastri

Australia v India, CB Series, 2nd final, Brisbane

'Hussey's dismissal was the turning point'

March 4, 2008

"The most positive thing to come out for Indian cricket was that we had a lot of youngsters in Australia for the first time and to go on to win the series would have given them the feeling that they can be the No. 1 team in the world and they can take on anybody." Ravi Shastri analyses India's famous series win in the CB series in Brisbane

Kudos to Dhoni and his young team for beating the World Champions Australia in their own backyard. Tendulkar's superb batting in the two finals(the best batsman in the world) and inspirational bowling by Praveen Kumar ably supported by enthusiastic, talented and exuberent young players of Team India, showed to the world what India is capable of doing. India outplayed Australia in all departments of the game as acknowledged by Ricky Ponting. Team Australia to learn from Team India !Excellent analysis by Ravi Shastri. Wish India many successes in the days to come.

Congratulations to the Indian Team which defeated the Australians in their own den by a 2-0 margin. Ponting's 'prophetic' words came true that only two matches will be required to decide the series. Australia lost the series due to their arrogance and they tried to bully our players 'off' and 'on' the field. Credit should be given to our players for remaining focused towards the game and the end result was there for all of us to see. Had the test match at Sydney been played in a fair manner then India might have won that match and the test series 2-1 also. However it has been proved beyond doubt that in majority of the matches against Australia in tests and ODI's, India wer able to push Australia on the backfoot. Dhoni has added another feather in his cap by winning the tri-series in an emphatic manner. He should also be given credit for backing his players and not afraid to take hard decisions. This will go a long way in his career. We should give due credit to our Indian coaches also.

In the euphoria of indian victory one should not forget the cumulative efforts of Australian players, media and crowd to distract india from the game. One can always understand sportsmanship but the Australian ways go much beyond and is clearly against the very spirit of the game that they claim they are playing with.Sporting spirit should be shown while playing not while giving media interviews.Hope the Australians learn this fast and start concentrating more on the game rather than mental disintegration.Australian cricket is too great to allow it be spoiled by a few big mouthed players.I believe Cricket Australia is strong enough to do the needful.Congratulations to both the teams for the quality of cricket and only for the quality of cricket.

well it was a great victory for the young team india.they really proove them the world champions. Yuvraj singh though not in the best of form, nevertheless, contributed handsomely to India's comprehensive victory. well pathan also improved all his mistakes in his last over.where he made sure that india wins.praveen & sachin were the real heros of the match. At last it was a gerat team effort which ensured india's win.

Congratulations to Indian cricket team and Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar .Young Indian team once again prove their performance and 20-20 world cup triumph.Australian team should bring new faces rather keeping senior players like Hayden, Symonds.Ponting failed control his team-mates and he should take the responsibility , resign the captaincy.

A great match indeed and a very fitting conclusion to the CB tournament. Not many of the previous versions have drawn more attention. As far as India goes, the finals were won with the help of the players on either end of the experience spectrum, namely Tendulkar and P.Kumar.And the captaincy of Dhoni is definitely commendable. But one was must feel for Adam Gilchrist, one known best for his entertaining game to go on such a quiet note.I, for one, will definitely miss seeing Gilly behind the stumps and have a feeling that Team Australia would feel his absence as well.

Kudos to Dhoni and his Team for beating the World Champs on their home turf. But lets not get carried away yet by saying that India won since all the senior players were axed and the youngsters have done their job. If you analyse carefully it will be found that it is the young bowlers who have performed wonderfully well compared to the other young batsmen.Yuvi, Rohit Sharma, Robin and Gambhir performed well but honestly it cannot be said that they were consistent like Dhoni. This Indian bowling is the best arguably in the History of Indian Cricket. Historically our "strength" has always been our batting but it the bowlers who bowled superbly as a unit and kept the pressure throughout. Bear in mind it was Sachin the senior pro who performed in the Finals. I readily admit that Saurav's and Rahul's running between the wickets and outfielding is not as good as the youngsters but even the youngsters were guilty of commiting fielding errors and dropping catches. I say recalling Saurav and Rahul and keeping the same Bowling Unit of youngsters will ensure that we will win more often than not.

Well done India. I am an ardent Australian fan but the way Dhoni and his men demolished the Aussies is awesome. Keep up the good work India and Sri Lanka, please take a leaf off the Indian book.

We in Lahore- Pakistan, watched the last few overs of the 2nf Final in the backdrop of a tragic suicide bombing in Lahore and India's win certainly helped cheer up our moods. I think India has achieved a great feat. The defeat of Australia in Australia is a great achievement, not a one time fluke. Keeping in view the quality of cricket India played in the Test Series, they are seriously now a world beating force. The already nervous South Africans need to really sweat now. I hope our Board (PCB) can take a feather from the cap of the Indian Cricket Establishment, as Team Indian has proved that mere appointment of a young and inexperienced captain is not a recipe for success, but a concerted effort from all players (senior and junior), an inspiring captain, supportive selection panel and the courage to do away with dark horses (Shoaib Akhtar in our case) are the factors which lead to success. Cheers and well done for Team India
