Who we are

John Wisden was a small but accurate fast bowler in the 19th century who launched a small and famously accurate book: the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack. His name has long since become a byword not merely for accuracy, but also authority, integrity, independence and sheer love of cricket. Every international match that has ever been played has been reported in the Almanack, and Wisden has led the way in commenting fearlessly on all the issues the game has faced, from Victorian chuckers to modern match-fixers. Cricinfo
Early in 2003 cricket's two major websites merged, to form one mega-site. Cricinfo.com is now part of the Wisden group and incorporates Wisden Online. Cricinfo was launched by a group of enthusiasts in 1993 and soon mushroomed into the world's largest single-sport site on the worldwide web. Wisden Online was launched in 2001 and quickly established a reputation for well-informed, well-written and often witty comment on the web in the Wisden tradition.

The latest incarnation of the Cricinfo site, relaunched in late 2003, combines the breadth of CricInfo - live scores from almost every cricket match of any consequence, and news from all corners of the globe - with the depth of the Wisden archive, and trenchant comment.

Users will soon be able to put historical Test scores in context by reading the accompanying contemporary Wisden Almanack match report online. Meanwhile the news coverage continues - with comment where appropriate - and a dedicated editorial team provides exclusive live match bulletins and incisive verdicts on the play in the big games. The editor of Cricinfo is Sambit Bal.

Wisden Cricketers' Almanack
Fat, yellow and famous throughout the cricket world, the Almanack has been published every year since 1864. It invariably appears in the UK bestseller list and early editions change hands among collectors for thousands of pounds. Each annual issue contains all the scores from the previous year - and much more besides, in the shape of sharp comment and thoughtful essays.

The 2005 edition can be ordered here. This year's Almanack, the 142nd annual edition, was edited by Matthew Engel, editor-in-chief of the Wisden group, and contained many new features designed to make it the perfect companion for regular users of Cricinfo. A sister volume, Wisden Cricketers' Almanack Australia (complete with green cover), was launched in 1998. The seventh edition, edited by Christian Ryan, was published in November 2004 and can be purchased from Cricshop and other outlets.

The Wisden Cricketer
Born out of the merger of the UK's two major cricket magazines, the first edition of the new Wisden Cricketer appeared in October 2003. Edited by John Stern, it blends the traditional strengths of The Cricketer, with its coverage of grassroots cricket as well as the international and county scene, with the lively comment and design of Wisden Cricket Monthly. Nasser Hussain, the former England captain, is one of the new magazine's associate editors, along with Sambit Bal, Scyld Berry, Patrick Eagar, Christopher Martin-Jenkins, Vic Marks, Peter Roebuck and Simon Wilde.

Wisden Asia Cricket
The first issue of Wisden Asia Cricket, a full-colour magazine produced and published in India, appeared in December 2001. The magazine, edited by Sambit Bal, follows the successful Wisden mix of thoughtful articles and punchy comment, as well as including all the news, scores and the best of the month's photographs. Regular contributors include Sanjay Manjrekar, Barry Richards and Harsha Bhogle.
